Vilnius University, founded in 1579, is one of the oldest universities in Central and Eastern Europe. The university is home to more than 21,000 students. Every year nearly 700 international non-degree students study at Vilnius University. Vilnius University has 14 faculties, 5 institutes, 4 interdisciplinary research and study centers, 3 University hospitals, an astronomical observatory, a botanical garden and the Church of St. Johns’. The Office of International Programs and Relations can assist students with any problems they may encounter.
Lithuania is the largest of the three Baltic countries with a population of nearly 4 million. Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania, is situated in the south-east, about 150 miles from the Baltic Sea. The city was founded in the fourteenth century and includes many architectural masterpieces of the Old Town, squares, narrow streets, medieval courtyards and parks that have witnessed many historical events. The Old Campus is located in the old part of Vilnius, directly across the street from the President of Lithuania’s house. The buildings in this part of the university are centuries old and include a church, observatory, library, and some academic class rooms. The histories of the university and the country of Lithuania are intertwined with the university playing an important role in the cultural life of the country, as well as neighboring countries.

Before going abroad, you will need to investigate the courses available at potential host institutions. OSU students studying abroad must take at least the equivalent of 12 OSU credit hours during their exchange semester. Please be sure to read the course descriptions provided by the host institution and compare them to your coursework at OSU.
OSU students studying at Vilnius University can take courses in Russian, biology and biochemistry, business, math, computer science, media and communications, sciences, philosophy, psychology, political science, sociology, and more! Click here for more information on the courses taught in English.
Students participating in a reciprocal exchange program must have completed at least 45 credit hours and have a cumulative 3.0 GPA or above at the time they intend to participate.

Students apply for housing on the online application. The university does its best to accommodate all international exchange students at its dormitory. For more information, please visit the host university website.
Students studying for 90 days or more are required to obtain a student visa or residency permit. Please refer to the website of the embassy or consulate to obtain visa information.
