The University of Latvia, with its 23,000 students, 13 faculties, and more than 20 research institutes is one of the largest comprehensive and leading research universities in the Baltic States. The University offers more than 150 state-accredited academic and professional study programs. At the University of Latvia, research is conducted in over 50 research fields which represent four main areas of inquiry: the humanities, sciences, social sciences, and education sciences. The University of Latvia pays great attention to the development of international collaboration. Students have access to the library as well as the living-learning labratory of the country's capital, Riga, as the university is located in the center of the town in beautiful, historic buildings.
Riga is the capital and largest city of Latvia. With more than 700,000 inhabitants, Riga is the largest city of the Baltic states and home to more than one third of Latvia's population. The city lies on the Gulf of Riga, at the mouth of the Daugava River. Riga's historical centre is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, noted for its Art Nouveau/Jugendstil architecture and 19th century wooden architecture. Its location offers a central hub for exploring the Baltic States and Scandanavia.

Before going abroad, you will need to investigate the courses available at potential host institutions. OSU students studying abroad must take at least the equivalent of 12 OSU credit hours during their exchange semester. Please be sure to read the course descriptions provided by the host institution and compare them to your coursework at OSU.

Students participating in a reciprocal exchange program must have completed at least 45 credit hours and have a cumulative 3.0 GPA or above at the time they intend to participate.
